Anna Buka
is a first-year Animation student at the University of Greenwich, originating from Ukraine. Due to a full-scale Russian Invasion, she had to leave her home country and continue her studies in the UK to embrace more ways to expand on her knowledge. She is interested in a lot of different mediums and styles of drawing and animation. Along with that, Anna does sculpting as a side hobby and recently developed a big love for 3D Animation and 3D sculpting, which is showcased in her recent university projects. She found herself fascinated by the possibilities and challenges that 3D brings with it.
Anna primarily focuses on creating character designs that appeal to a wider audience, which was her childhood dream. She wants to entertain with immersive storytelling and bright characters, along with special visuals. With all the knowledge she’s gained this year she wants to continue studying, creating more characters and hoping to make an impact on the Animation industry.

My main idea was to show women in industry and show business through the lens of AI and technology. Nowadays, the usage of AI seems essential to every company and social media. We see it in our algorithms, the media produced, and the text written in essays. People are concerned (rightfully so) about their job being taken away by a machine. This is even more concerning in the media-producing industry specifically. But sometimes AI can be used in the right ways and be an instrument rather than a replacing factor.
In my story a woman named Eva has a dream of becoming a pop star that could sing and perform on almost any genre of music. But due to her illness and inability to achieve her dream, she achieves it through having created an AI singer who was inspired by numerous sketches of her own character and how she sees herself on stage. Her personality and voice were based on Eva's ideas and interactions with her fans and stories.
When Eva dies, the music producer Leo almost immediately decides to shut down the project, even though Eva said that she wished for her creation to live forever, as this was the whole reason why she was made in the first place. This is a symbolism for women in the industry getting “out of their sparkling age” moment, when they are not as beautiful and profitable anymore for the company. Even with the fact that AI singer can’t age, there’s still a certain pattern of having new female stars changing every 5-10 years in the industry, which is a partly a problem of misogyny and inability for male audiences to not subject women pop stars to just inhumane dolls.
